March 2016: Hedge layers back at Hope Farm
This month saw the return of the South of England Hedge Laying Society to Hope Farm for another day tidying up one of our hedges. It was a great day enjoyed by all who attended and rounded off with a barbecue of home produced meat.
For us March is a month to catch up and take stock after a busy time during February lambing the contract ewes. We have spent plenty of time getting ready for our own lambing in April and ensuring the ewes are in the right condition for lambing.
A real highlight for us this month was winning champion and reserve champion at Hailsham Market’s Easter lamb show and sale with lambs from our autumn lambing Poll Dorset flock. It was a real achievement winning champion and reserve on the same day and pleasing to see our Poll Dorset flock producing prize winning prime lambs.
